Call it Black Monday - Major Incentive Offer BMG and Columbia House pull out from the incentive game

I thought I had everything ready to pull the trigger on a new site, over 120 offers were loaded, I had tested my tracking systems, the activation process, my css was mostly compatible with every browser, and wouldn't you know it, someone goes and pulls down two of my favorite offers.

Since losing Girls Gone Wild last week, and discovering that Vonage is on a budget, I was not really in the mood for the flurry of emails from every network that I work with.

I could not believe my eyes, this can't be happening! Will the exit of Columbia house spell the start of a trend in incentive marketing? Certainly I have noticed a lack of new offers appearing that accept incentive traffic. Many new merchants are unwilling to accept incentive traffic, and now it seems that this is the beginning of the end of the major advertisers.

Who will be next? Vertrue regrouped and relaunched the very popular Bargain offers again, Girls Gone Wild has all but closed the door on their very popular offer, and other advertisers are scaling back their budgets.

Now is not the best time for me to be launching a new site.


But that is what I am doing anyways!


Despite the fact that major advertisers are turning a cold shoulder to incentive traffic, I would encourage them to make an exception for Rewarding Reviews - A brand new site that rewards consumers for their opinion of products and services!

The incentive marketing business is not dead, and I refuse to accept a few bumps in the road as a sign of a death-spiral. What will end is the fraud and greed. Incentive sites will need to become innovative, and I don't just mean giving more money back to their users, or coming up with clever ways to wring more money out of advertisers:

Incentive and freebie sites need to innovate and add value, fast.

Rewarding Reviews is just that, added value and exposure for advertisers. Members who join (for free of course) can earn cash by signing up for trial offers and writing reviews on their blog, myspace page, or any other site they wish.

Advertisers get new sign-ups and exposure, plus someone who is going to actually try out the offer instead of canceling it hours later just to get a few dollars on a "get paid to" freebie site. Members of Rewarding Reviews earn money, firstly by signing up for the offer, but also for writing the review and giving the advertiser some exposure and even feedback on the product.

Members also get some great things to write about at discounts too :D

Without adding value to the advertiser at some point in the transaction, every freebie site out there is doomed to be eventually be cut off from the money-tree that is incentive marketing.

I for one, am not worried.
